Scotland was born in a town nestled against farmland on the outskirts of the Philadelphia suburbs. He discovered the camera as a child, but didn’t explore it seriously until his studies in philosophy left him feeling detached and unable to communicate with the world around him. After spending a year studying philosophy at Oxford University, Scotland turned to photography to deal with the ideas he found incomplete in the classroom.

Scotland now works at an innovative Community Health Center in Dorchester, MA, using visual media and communications as a way of promoting public health. He also runs a fine art wedding photography business called Give and Take Pictures.
